The Steam Engine Boiler

Housed in the At-ato Bar and Coffee Shop is this Steam Engine Boiler.

One of the original mainstays of Mount Data Hotel is this old upright steam engine boiler, a donation from the Heald Lumber Company in 1962. In cold areas like Bauko, Mountain Province, boilers provide much needed hot water for guests. larger boilers in hotels also support institutional functions such as laundry, heating and sanitation.

Upright in position, the vertical crosstube boiler is designed for smaller building and hotel operations. In its heyday, the boiler was fueled by wood, and the fire heated 146 tubes inside the upper portion of the machine. With a capacity of 400 liters, the boiler had been providing hot water for the 22 rooms nad 2 dormitories of the hotel.

While the boiler room has now been converted into a café, the old steam engine boiler remains. It is a reminder of the long history of Mount Data Hotel as a place of transit of many past generations.
